Am I the only one who keeps picturing Isla's "Starstick" as one of those plastic fairy wands I had when I was a kid?
Sequels are supposed to be better than the first book because you should have already laid some groundwork. This feels like Aster didn't have a plan when finishing Lightlark and now has to scramble to lay down some sense of a long-term storyline. The flashbacks were so consistent that she should have just cut the rest of the book, as it was all just filler, especially seeing how frequent they happened towards the end of the book. By the end, it was all flashbacks till the very last scene.
Grim is literally Rhysand from "A Court of Thorns and Roses" just in a worse font.
Isla is a terrible ruler, and the flashback scenes made her appear way younger, even though they only happened a little before the start of the first book.
We still can't finish thoughts and conversations before randomly jumping to the next task.

“Enya, Urn, and Helios join me”
- Ah, yes, the singer, a vessel for dead people, and the Greek sun god, the originality of this book is non-existent, other than the already established characters.
“I like your eyes too,” he offered, studying her face as if wanting to make her smile again. He quickly returned his attention to her hair. “They’re my favorite color.” She raised an eyebrow at him. “My eyes happen to be your favorite color?”
-They are trying so hard to have chemistry, and it's painful. Can we get Grim back in here, please? I was team Oro for like 7 seconds at the end of Lightlark (only because I like blondes over emos any day), but it's kinda obvious who she's going to end up with. Especially with that line by Grim. “Let go of my wife.” Hopefully, this will all be over when book four comes out. Honestly, I want Grim and Oro to be endgame, it would be the ultimate enemies-to-lovers, AND we can just kill off Isla. Wouldn't that be ideal?

What a wild ride this was! I definitely liked the continuation of this story! There was so much jam packed into this book that I truly don't even know where to start. I thought every aspect of this was my exact cup of tea and I don't know what to say more. Also the ending!! Like the last chapter. I screamed YES!! I am EAGER to see what happens in book 3!!
a lotttt better writing then in lightlark, u can just see alex aster’s writing getting better, its a good book but I do have the feeling that alex wants her books to be 400+ pages so she is just making sentences that shouldn’t be there hahahahah, its fine if the story is shorter alex, u don’t need 5 of the same sentences in 1 page, love u tho, can’t wait for skyshade! 💕
This was better than the first book in the series. Light was shed on many of the loose ends from the previous book, and the solution of returning to the main character's forgotten memories made sense and was fresh.

The ending was beautiful, but much of the excitement from the first book was missing simply due to the evolution of the world the characters exist in
Honestly hated the back and forth from past to present. The way it’s set up for an audiobook is awful and very confusing. This book was slower than the previous. I honestly feel like Oro or whatever his name is can be quite a flat character. I feel like he’s sort of one note. Grimm was intriguing from the previous book and even more so in this one. I do think the last 20% was the only interesting part of the book so I felt like I really had to push through. I almost dnf’d a few times.

There is so much passion in this book. The more that I learn about Grim, the more I love him! But Aro is amazing as well. It's like the bad boy vs. the good boy.
