Alix loves hockey. What she doesn’t love is the team captain making fun of her every chance she gets. Like the mean girl that she is, her team captain pokes and pokes and pokes, until she hits the point where Alix lashes out. No one on the team defends her. No one addresses the bullying, and Alix feels she is broken.

And then she witnesses Ezra being bullied at school. He is being bullied about being gay (which technically he isn’t. He is Pan or queer, but not gay). He gives as good as he gets, and the bully backs down and runs off. Alex wants to be able to do that, so she approaches Ezra to help her learn.

From there we learn more about Ezra’s world as well as Alix’s. And although the title says they love each other, does not come easy for Alix to realize that anyone could possibly love her, or even want to be near her. As she says, hockey is all she understand, and is good at. It is logical. People, on the other hand, are not.

I love this book. It took me a while to warm to Alix, but once I did, I totally saw where she was coming from. People are hard to figure out, and it hurts when your team makes bully you, and no one does anything about it. It is a skill to spar verbally, and it is something that has to be learned.

Perhaps it is because Alix is neurodivergent that she is having these problems, but that part is not explored.

Either way, this was another interesting look at the way romance can blossom between two very supposably opposite types of people.

A quiet sort of read. I wanted to reread it to pick up on everything that was going on. It is also a clean romance, with the most that happens is kissing and snuggling, fully clothed, of course.

Even though this graphic novel is set in present day, it totally took me back to my high school life. I enjoyed the friendships and the settings-hockey rinks to the theatre.

I loved this so much. I really resonated with the characters, and I must admit, Ezra is my dream boy <33 Such a cute read.
I would have loved to see the consequences of Alix’s confrontation with Lindsay
but otherwise it had a perfect amount of depth.
