This was such a sweet, hurt/comfort and romantic read. I adored every moment and the art is so cute, very fitting to the story and I had such a fun time with this book.
Alix and Ezra have that opposites attract vibe, their first introduction together and learning from one another. The growing attraction as they admire one another and getting involved in each others interests.
Aix helping with the play props and Ezra's attempt at skating, watching Alix play hockey and Alix watching Ezra's plays.
Both have their own struggles going on in their lifes as events are revealed throughout, whether it's family or friends. This book looks at relationships really well, how different perspectives can impact and while it takes time.
In some way or another almost everyone is given the opportunity to speak and tell their stories, how they feel and what things mean to them. These scenes really allowed the character growth to shine too as Alix finally breaks away from the toxic team she's in to explore a new one.
Ezra realizing how his actions may have harmed others even without intent. Being able to view things in a new light and apologize, move forward within friendships. Along with his mother's new relationship, giving opportunity to see in a new light.
Honestly I sped through this story, I was captured from start to finish in every way. Such a beautiful and fun read, with important conversations and great quotes. Leading to a sweet happy ending

It was cute. again a little cringe at some part but nothing bad it's a YA so it's expected. It was fun and I like that serious drama is solved within a day or two. i also liked the art it was cute.

Cutesy, fun, and a fast read. It was lighthearted and just what I needed after a much heavier book.

Hicks' books are always a delight. This one ended before I was ready for it, though.

Hockey Girl Loves Drama Boy by Faith Erin Hicks was a sweet, loving, and encouraging book about being true to yourself and exploring your identity. I think that this graphic novel is perfect for PRIDE month, as it tackles issues such as bullying, sexuality, friendship, and family relationships. There is a lot in this book that is worth thinking about and analyzing further. I thought it was a really sweet story and while I think the ending left me hanging a bit, I really enjoyed it.
Thank you First Second and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very sweet graphic novel and I especially loved reading a book with a female main character who played hockey as I find a lot of the hockey books I read are centred around male players.
The friendship, and relationship, that developed between the main characters was very authentic and the family moments were also very well done.
I have read several of Faith Erin Hicks' graphic novels now and really enjoy their art style and storytelling and this one did not disappoint. Will definitely be recommending this to students, my following online, as well as my hockey friends/fellow fans of my local team (particularly the younger girls) when the season starts.
