Ezra is a theatre geek. Alix plays hockey. They may not seem like a perfect match, but they are and they are so sweet. When Alix sees Ezra deftly handle a bully she asks for his help with her own bully. That’s where they begin. The art is beautiful, the story is touching, relatable and the characters just tug at your heart.

Thank you First Second, Faith Erin Hicks, Fierce Reads, and Storygram Tours for sending me a copy for the tour! ☺️🫶
.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought the friendship and relationship between Alix and Ezra was super cute. I see myself a lot in Alix as she is pretty isolated and shy (definitely not the sports part 😅) and seeing her create a friendship with Erza was so wonderful. Both Alix and Ezra are such loveable characters and I can definitely see myself rereading this one! 💕
.
I also really enjoyed seeing the book delve into both Alix’s and Ezra’s family relationships. The two have different family dynamics and they are both explored and talked about through the book.
.
The color palette for the book is grayscale with a pop of light blue throughout which is really beautiful and I love the drawing style and character design. Overall, I thought the book was wonderfully paced to tell the story. I feel with graphic novels sometimes the story can be too quick or too dragged out at points. But the author perfectly nailed it with this one! 😊
.
Erza is queer, he is unlabeled and says so in the books which I appreciate. Sometimes you don’t need a label for yourself and you can just be who you are. I feel like there isn’t much representation of just queer unlabeled people so I appreciate the inclusion and conversation around it. 👏 I also love how even though this book’s main relationship is between a woman and a man, it's still a queer relationship and a queer book! 🌈
.
⚠️CW: homophobia, (past) domestic violence, bullying.
