This graphic novel does a good job of discussing feelings, consent, conflict, standing up to bullies, self-advocacy, and loving who you want to based on how they treat you. I enjoyed the illustrations too. I felt that it ended rather abruptly though... no real conclusion, so, 3 instead of 4 stars.

It had potential to be great but it needed more time. Alot of the characters seemed very immature no matter their age, which affected my thoughts on the whole plot. If we had more time to watch the characters communicate and grow it would have felt alot deeper and well rounded. The main characters are sweet together though.
3.5 stars. A nice story about a skilled hockey-player who has trouble with her cheerfully-horribly mean team captain (and the coach who, infuriatingly, allows her meanness) and asks a drama-club boy whose cool-headed comebacks to his homophobic bully she witnesses to teach her how to deal with her anger the same way. Friendship becomes attraction, and both teens learn about themselves as they share confidences, navigate friend and family relationships, and figure out how to deal with the conflicts in their lives.
Recommended for readers who enjoy realistic dramas with a warmhearted atmosphere and stories about a variety of interpersonal relationships (between friends, in teams/cliques, between teens and parents, between exes). Likely to be enjoyed by fans of 'Heartstopper'!
Pros: wholesome slow-burn romance (no instalove or horndoggery!), the overtly Canadian setting (including the joke of 'famous' vs 'Canadian famous' ^^), spotlight on some tall-girl problems
Content concerns: no gratuitous swearing, no drugs, no drunken teen parties, no sex scenes (just a few kisses, not heated, occasional bullies using sexual insults, and one mention of someone having had sex in the past); scenes of verbal bullying including homophobia; flashback of spousal abuse
