I loved reading about magic in a historical setting, and I hope book 2 showcases the different types of magic in this world! My main complaint is that there was never a real sense of danger or urgency despite all the mysteries, secrets, and enemies; this made the pacing somewhat meandering. I also wish Hetta had been a little more something. Maybe sassier? I think I’m about to go on a gaslamp fantasy binge...

I was pleasantly surprised to find this in Kindle Unlimited - most of the fantasy elements have been seen before, but combining them with a family drama set in a 1930s British aristocracy-esque world was unique and interesting. Will definitely keep going in the series!

This was a sweet and fun story and I think I will enjoy watching it grow beyond the bounds of the first book. And, I mean, fairy stories are always kinda fun.
There are ways in which it feels unpolished and like elements of it could fit together more elegantly, but especially for a first novel, it was a nice read.

This book is wonderful. I was so engrossed in it, i missed my stop. Several, to be precise.
It is about Hetta who comes home for her father's funeral after living 6 years on her own. She only planned to stay until the next Lord of Stariel has been chosen and was very sure that it would not be her. How it unfolds, is the plot and I do not want to reveal any spoilers.

I am so glad that there are more books in this series, which I hope would explain more about their world in depth.

Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for providing me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 stars. Well written, but started slow. After the new lord is chosen, things picked up much more. There were several twists which weren't predictable. Ending is nicely done for a series! Things are actually resolved, so could be read as a standalone novel.

What a wonderful surprise: this book is wonderful, one the best fantasy I read this year.
I loved everything: the plot, the characters, the world building.
It's a mix of different fantasy genres including steampunk and fae.
Hetta, the main character, is lovely and realistic.
All the characters are enchanting, well developed and lovely.
I was enthralled since the beginning and couldn't put it down.
I cannot wait to read the next instalment in this series.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Camberion Press and Netgalley for this ARC

An easy fantasy read with an engaging heroine. Very predictable.
