It's been ages since I read Wool, so Shift by Hugh Howey might have suffered a bit from me having forgotten plenty of bits and pieces.

I loved Wool, but only enjoyed Shift. I don't need a lot of action or suspense to book me, I love books like Becky Chambers or Andy Weir. So this being more a flashback and "how did we get here?" and the people than any actual plot progression was not my problem. However I just didn't really click with the characters as much as I should have, and that made Shift feel a bit long at times. I still live the world and idea (though not everything made sense for me), and I read it in just two days. So it's not a bad book, I just didn't enjoy it just as much as the first.

This was not the sequel I expected from Wool. Wool was good but not incredible to me, but this book fleshed out this world so so much. There is so much context. Fascinating human interactions and psychology. I ate it up. I very much enjoyed this book!
