This is a collection of poems that are both in English and Spanish. It was written in NYC in 1929-1930, so he oversees the Chrysler building being completed and the Wall Street Crash. He attends Columbia university, and also travels to Canada and to Cuba. Did I learn this through his poems?

No.

I found the poems to not fill me with imagery. Some of the word choices seemed completely random, and there were several words repeated across poems often. I found the letters to his family to be the more interesting part, as it was a window into NYC in that period, far more so than the poems themselves.

Also, there is a lot of language about different races of people that would NOT be okay today. It is a product of its time, but man some of these are rough.
