Deliciously weird in the best possible way! I was on board with the author’s voice on page 1 and being a HS theater teacher with chronic pain myself, this book feels like it was meant for me!

This one was hard for me, because I got really tired of the character and her voice....which, I get, is part of the point. But I felt it could've been a short story or a novella and been more effective for me.

still not the biggest fan of her writing style & pacing but i love how awad is able to write stories that so deeply touch on aspects of the female experience but to an extreme degree & is able to twist it lol plus i am a sucker for a bit of dreamy sinister magical realism 🙏

i liked this more than rouge (the only other awad book i’ve read) & i also really appreciate how both felt like there were stories within stories that parallel the main plot point/action, in this case the plots of both plays + the events the characters were experiencing irl

not entirely sure how i feel about this? def very fun and engaging, but like literally impossible to not compare with bunny and i just like bunny more? which made this one feel a bit flat at times? also def recommend familiarizing yourself w both plays before reading, it rlly adds a nice complexity
