HOW is this a debut?!?!? This was one of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read??? It was published in 2013 and the main character is NOT annoying??? There is no stupid romance??? There’s a great political intrigue??? And don’t get me started on the world building!!! I was enjoying reading this book SO MUCH, I could not put it down. If the next book isn’t as good as this one, I’m going to be so mad, you don’t even know. The fact that I’ve been put off reading this for such a long time…!!! Why am I reading a winter book in June?!?
I’m sorry if the review is incoherent, I’m just at loss for words, this book was so fun. I need the next one IMMEDIATELY

Not the worst book I’ve ever read… however, absolutely not the best. The concept of the world and the magic/powers are cool but the story itself is lacking. The female MC felt very much “not like other girls” trope-y and the progression of this book was slooowwwww. Honestly for all that happened in this book, there was no need for it to take as long as it did, this storyline did not need to be stretched into nearly 500 pages. I still have so many thoughts - I think I’ll come back to this review later.
