Emily is a hospice nurse—a strenuous and stressful job even in the best of times. But Emily doesn’t work at a normal hospice. She helps patients with end of life care, but also with afterlife death care. Emily’s patients are zombies.

Don’t call them zombies, though. They are guests of the hospice. They’ve been awarded dignity through tireless efforts of grassroots organizations. People don’t like it, though. In fact, Emily passes protestors every time she walks into the hospice.

Where the Dead Go to Die follows Emily and her 10-year-old daughter as they settle into their lives. We visit Emily and Lucette seven years earlier, where we learn about the beginnings of this epidemic. Dries and Gunnells have meshed perfectly and created a harrowing and terrifying story. This book was published in 2016; reading this in the time of Covid-19 is really shocking.

CW for dead animals, rape, pedophilia, gore/blood, death, chronic illness/hospital setting, and gun violence
