So good
I was so excited for Angie's story and curious about the clones. This story delivered. I especially love the way it goes into personal identity and codependent relationships when things change.

Yet another great example of Ruby delving further into a character to show us the enormous bottom of the iceburg...or the frantically paddling duck feet. (Yet another example proving that this series may be a layer of delicious chocolate alien porn on the outside, but the inside is rich, sophisticated dark chocolate mousse.)
The characterizations in this one floored me.
Vordis: He has to come to terms with no longer being a slave and beholden to a master. He is now his own person, but doesn't know who that person is. His whole life he's been a thing...a thing just like every other cloned thing. A clone just like his "brother" Thrand. He could never have hoped to be an individual in his former life and the concept proves to be difficult for him to navigate.
Angie: I had no idea that she was being excluded, but that makes total sense. Everyone is dealing with their own trauma and no one has any mental energy reserve to give to Angie's. After all, what do you say to someone who was likely raped by some unknown alien scumbag as she slept?
The conclusion was very satisfying. We got the best outcome to her pregnancy that we could have hoped for and Vordis circled back to being Thrand's brother after pushing him away.
The one thing I've been missing, however, is some sort of group discussion between Ashtar, Gren, Vordis and Thrand. The ladies discuss their situation all the time. These guys need to feel some solidarity and embrace their found family. They've all been slaves, forced into the same abusive and violent circumstances with no hope of reprieve. It's tragic and each one of their stories are emotional for me.

stands out in series
This one was much better than last couple in the series! I’m a little tired of the heteronormativity of the ice planet (esp in spin the bottle scene).
Loved the character of Angie and her journey to motherhood.

Angie’s Gladiator is book four in the Icehome series by Ruby Dixon.
This series needs to be read in order.
Angie was abducted by aliens. When she wakes up on the ice planet pregnant; she has no clue how she got that way or what kind of alien impregnated her.
Vordis is one of a thousand clones created to fight in the gladiator rings. He also has a clone brother Thrand. There on their way to a new owner, but the ship crashes on the ice planet. Both think it’s their job to protect Angie.
Angie is lonely, she feels apart from the other women who are also stranded on the ice planet, and she is attracted to Vordis, but feels it’s not right in her condition. Vordis doesn’t’ feel he’s worthy of Angie. Both yearn for each other. I liked their romance. Lots of chemistry and Vordis is so dedicated to Angie. It was sweet and adorable to see.
With all the novels in this series they are told in duel POV’s. I like this aspect. Dixon does a wonderful job with this world.
Angie’s Gladiator is a sweet read. I enjoyed the romance. If you enjoy sexy aliens then I recommend picking up a Dixon novel.

One of my favorites so far, the emotional development of their relationship seemed particularly well rounded. I like the hint of the clones brotherly bond flavoring the story; I'm excited to see how that plays into the other stories.
