Thereโs smut, thereโs erotica and there is porn. This is porn. I donโt mean that in a good way. The plot held promise, but the story was rushed and the only written form of intimacy or affection they had for each other came from sex and all of those read like porn scripts. I liked the way the spirituality was written. As an atheist, it was written well enough that even I understood the feeling. I also liked the ending in a way.

Goddd (literally) this was so messy ๐ญ but I still loved it! I went into this thinking I'd need to go to confession immediately afterwards but it actually included so many fascinating and important questions and conflicts that plague the modern Catholic church. Why *do* we still uphold celibacy? What even is sin? Can consensual love be a sin when Jesus taught us to, above all, love eachother?
You can clearly tell that Sierra grew up Catholic and what I especially appreciated was that while this was erotica, it wasn't erotica at its core. While some of the plot points went a bit too far for my tastes (like using annoited oil as lube...), most topics were still handle with care and respect even if the author was no longer a practising Catholic. She also included scenes where characters obviously feel God or His presence and I loved those.
Especially towards the end, the relationship did get so messy and there was so much miscommunication but I loved Poppy and Tyler enough to see beyond that even though I was really annoyed with them at points (looking at you, Tyler). I think a few sex scenes could've been cut so the ending wasn't as rushed but I still had such a great time with this book and hey, it actually inspired me to get my rosary out again โ amazing what smut can do, huh?
TLDR; I actually think there's nothing more attractive than a man willing to devote his entire life to God so I was helpless from the start

For starters, for anyone to think this story will not be about a horny priest but a priest simply falling in love, WHAT?! The synopsis is very clear and you should not expect ANYTHING other than a whole load of smut and a forbidden romance that you want to work.
Now, I want to say thank you to whatever God decided to put Priest up for free via Kindle for a set amount of daysโฆ because of you, I was able to read this book a lot sooner that I thought Iโd be able to.
I read Priest as a buddy read with my best friend and we were both blown away. Iโve never read a book that delves into religion, but I really love how the religion was focused on in this story. It was not only interesting to read the prayers and lines from the Bible, but it was also interesting to see how things work if you are someone who is a Priest. I feel that the religion playing a big part in the story allowed for more development and strayed away from stories that focus on someone instantly giving up on something they believe in as soon as they meet someone theyโre attracted to. I was pleased to see how much Tylerโs faith meant to him, and that it was a hard hard hard choice for him to decide on what to do.
The backstory to why Tyler became a Priest was mentioned a few times, and I really like how it was spoken about. The back story is something that happens in the real world and isnโt often heard about, I feel as though Sierra raised awareness in some sort of way, and for that, I think sheโs an incredible woman.
Poppy is one of the strongest females I have come across in a story, her strength is admirable, and I love that she loves Tyler for how much he loves and cares about his faith. Not only does she want to be a better person, but she wants to be someone who finds her own path. Sheโs not perfect, but at least she doesnโt act as though she is. While I had so much anger at Poppy at one point during the story, I understand why she did what she did, and I just want her to be happy.
Finally, this is the SPICIEST book I have read. I love the BDSM/degrading representation, I love how itโs made clear that while itโs okay in relationships, itโs only okay if both parties are consenting and talk about things properly. The fact that Sierra makes it clear through her characters and before the story starts is something that I love and I think other authors should take note of it and follow that line.
All in all, I absolutely LOVED this story, I SQUEALED at certain points, and Iโd let Tyler take me on an alter any day. If youโre still reading this review, please stop what youโre doing and go and purchase this book SOMEHOW.

Look, was the spice spicy? Absolutely. But this book is technically called Priest: A Love Story and I wasnโt feeling the love part. Tyler and Poppy definitely had physical chemistry, but I donโt understand their emotional connection at all. Was there one?
If you want a smutty book this is definitely that, and the writing is good, but the characters are a bit flat for me. 3 stars.
