As with most short story collections, some I really enjoyed and some I found a bit confusing so the rating is an average across everything. The second half of the collection did feel stronger than the first. Handala, Rumayne, Megiddo and The Nettle Branch were my favorites.

These queer Palestinian shorts by Sonia Sulaiman are very beautiful. Muneera and the Moon, is a sapphic short story where a djinn spills her secrets to the moon. The prose is wonderfully lyrical and the loneliness and solitude reached out through the pages.

"There is no one for me, not in the world below or the world above. The knowledge I've gleaned through the centuries is not comforting me, and I grow ever more restless, with no one to turn to for warmth."

a beautiful look into palestinian folklore and culture to educate myself!
as with any short story collection, some were more to my taste than others - the 2nd and 3rd stories struck something in me, they were so intensely beautiful and painful, i found myself struck by only a slither of pain the people of palestine must be facing right now, especially after the destruction of their biggest library. these 2 definitely impacted me the most, but the rest of the stories were all well written and i would highly recommend!
