Godhede Volume 1: Hidden Worlds of Demons & Magic - Dark Mysteries of the Ages

An interesting adventure with a lot of colorful concepts, but doesn't really meet the full potential it displays and has several weaknesses that rather frustrate me.
-We get to see all manner of neat concepts, but they are only lightly touched on and sort of ignored from that point out. In particular, I would have really liked it if the author would have indulged a bit when explaining the student's rooms, perhaps showing me a few others. Feel like a total loss of world building potential.
-Has a habit of dipping into poorly worded run on sentences for exposition parts. In particular, the explanation of how magic vs. light works and how the darkness came to be. Both are solid sentence paragraphs that take a little picking through to fully understand. I feel this more an error in word choice than an actual format failure.
-The characters, those that are named, are poorly described and hard to keep track of. Half of the main class has little to no descriptive imagery outside of a word or three upon introduction. Makes it hard to form a clear picture as we go.
-The proofreader didn't do his/her job very well. Numerous errors, characters being called by the incorrect gender pronouns (I think...a few I'm sure are errors, others I'm not do to the above mentioned poor character descriptions), repetitive, over wordy sentences ("Then he did this. Then he did that. Then he did this. Then he did that.") that could stand to be truncated or just rewritten.
-Leans heavily on the incoming twist cliche with little to no pay off.
-I get the feeling that this wasn't meant as a novel when it was started, but a comic book. Would flow so much better in a visual medium, most of my issues with it would actually be solved. No confusion about who is who or not showing off enough of a concept, it's all there, in the drawings.
All that said, I don't think it's a bad book. It's a good read and has potential to become something truly great over time, but it needs a little help. For the small price point, I think any fantasy reader would enjoy it.
