First off, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would based on how people describe the story. Mo Ran is truly an idiot! He annoys and endears me in equal measure. Xue Meng is a fun combative element to Mo Ran's character. Shi Mei? I would trust to pass me a cup of water. Now best for last, Chu Wanning is infuriating and lovable to the highest extent lol. 

For the actual writing, I found it to be funny, compelling, and easy to follow. The plot doesn't seem to drag (although there are 10 more volumes so we'll see and l was kept engaged the entire time. 

Overall I'm looking forward to vol. 2!

I wish I could read this in the original Chinese because the translation leaves a lot to be desired. There doesn’t seem to have been any effort made to make the translation enjoyable to read. That on top of cardboard flat characters made for a pretty bad read.

Mo Ran is a moron and Chu Wanning is probably one of the most tragic characters I have read. Half the time, I don't know whether to laugh or cry and I love it so much. 

It is dark though, so if you have trouble with certain topics, heed the trigger warnings list.

No matter how you look at it, the main pairing is problematic. But I’m here for the DRAMA 💅

But seriously, the story is fine. The tone is an odd mix of humor, melodrama, and “dark” themes. Definitely not my cup of tea in terms of romance (again, problematic!) , but the whole past/present thing has got me interested! See content warnings.
