This book is mandatory reading in Portugal for the 11th grade and so, as always, it has a terrible reputation which, among other things like my teacher giving us quite a good summary of the book, lead me not to read it last year, when I should've. However it might be a part of one of the exams I'm doing this year so I decided to read it anyway to be better prepared for the exam, to see what the fuss was all about and to see if the rumors checked out. It turns out they definitely don't. This book does not deserve the reputation is has because it's actually quite nice, a bit (lot) too slow I'd say but it's a great satire and metaphorical critic to the Portuguese society and it has quite an original plot. Plus it's a classic and well, you just gotta read classics.

Hated every single character; lack of real and complex emotions and relationships; way too long; nothing really happens; ironic but still very close minded.

let's say i simple don't give 1/5 to almost any book because i feel bad.

DID NOT FINISH

Comecei. Parei. Tentei de novo. Perdi-me.

meh ... it's just a book for school (*coughs* boring)

honestly hard to read but so worth it carlos and ega's frienship is so heartwarming

The book was simply amazing the relationship between Carlos and Maria is beautifully written. Also, I love Craft.
