Lady Dorothea Beaumont got a rum deal with her parents! She came through for her half-sister in the last book by rebelling and not marrying the Duke of Harland. She's not interested in becoming the Duchess of Osborne by any means!! The Duke, Dalton, quite agrees!! Until she enters his quarters late one night and they run off to Ireland! Adventure ensues!!! Lenora is fast becoming an auto-buy for me!

I loved reading this book, Lenora Bell is a gifted storyteller. I love it when there's a twist at the end, although the ending did seem kind of rushed.

The first sex scene though! And they didn't even go all the way! I was in a trance.

I loved how Bell transformed Dorothea in Dalton's presence. The right person can change somebody for the better, but her transformation was slow and I feel it wasn't complete on my end reading it but by the end of the book, it was. Does that make sense? I think what I'm trying to say is that we didn't see enough of her transformation.

And Dalton was left hanging too I felt. We didn't see a completion of his troubles, it was just told to us in the last pages.

I felt this book could have been more.

3.5 . This is the first paper back that I have finished in a long time, I feel my reading slump is finally ending! I thought this was a good book with great character development. Thea worked hard to become a women and the duke worked hard to let go of what he thought he was for years. This book had me laughing and the story line was cute. I liked the other characters, they had a sweet story line but not taking over the whole story. I was truly surprised by the end, and happy to have read this book and can’t wait to read more of lenora bell :)

It was over the top. I did laugh. Thea putting on an Italian accent to be Dame Gabrielli fell flat though. The vigilante plot is weird, and at times it feels like two different genres slapped together, not well blended.

If I Only Had a Duke reminded me why I fell in love with historical romance genre. While it needed maybe a bit more editing since sometimes some phrases and words were repeated too often, the fun it provided made up for it.

If you like historical romance novels that feature:
+ Mouthy on-the-shelf heroine
+ Brooding duke
+ The-clash-of-wills romance
+ Intriguing side-mystery and quest
The If I Only Had a Duke will offer you a delightful, relaxing love story.
