Not my most favorite romance. I felt certain parts were humorous, but the romance between the two main characters was campier than I desired. Overall it was entertaining and was a nice change of pace.

I’m tapping out a third of the way. I just cannot connect to either main character. I feel like the mfc is written with this weird mix of male and female energy and the mmc is all male energy. The insta-love from the mmc is cringy and the mfc’s weirdness has no explanation. I kept reading thinking there was going to be an aha moment, but nothing came that hooked me to keep reading.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
By Lauren Landish
Narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel

When I started this book, I thought what a cute premise! Zoey and Blake are in an accident together and fall in love. But there is just so much more to this story! Lauren Landish has written a funny romcom with an element of romantic suspense! Leave it to Lauren to put my two favorite tropes together!! So the two meet when then crash into each other, but the insurance agent and coroner team up to investigate a death. How will it turn out? Will the nerdy doctor believe the hot insurance agent is interested in her? Drop Dead Gorgeous is a must listen. It will have you loving the characters, enjoying the story and trying to figure out the mystery. It's one you will love and want to hear again!

Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are one of my favorite teams of narrators. These two have the chemistry that comes through the microphone. That being said, this story stretches their talents with a cast of many, giving them the chance to truly show their vocal abilities. Doctors, policemen, family members, directors, they bring them all to life with different voices creating that movie in the mind feel. And their comedic timing is spot on. Loved this book and their performance!

mf - contemporary romance - moderate steam - white MCs - he falls first - opposites attract - workplace - 4 stars. Definitely a unique premise (she’s a coroner and he’s in life insurance). The mystery was fun and Blake is a total cinnamon roll.

Drop Dead Gorgeous was a really fun, sweet, heartwarming story. A little wild and certainly different, but fun with a HEA!

Didn’t keep me interested

This is the first book from this author that I didn’t love and finish in 1 sitting. Her other comedy books have all made me laugh so hard. I just couldn’t get into this book. I found the actions of the people in the town to be over the top, I guess it was supposed to be comedic but I just found it to be unbelievable. I also didnt connect to the characters at all. I made it a little more than half way through and decided to move on.

3.5 stars... I'm not sure if I'm in a slump so this book didn't seem as good or if it really just didn't hook me like I'd like.
I found the storyline to be fun, however there seemed to be some weird plot holes that I didn't quite understand the point of having (i.e. Blake follows Sebastian but doesn't follow him to Yvette's house down the road and assumes that's where he was going so I figured that was going to end up being an incorrect assumption but it didn't turn out to be anything)...
The sexy time was okay, but just okay, nothing to write home about. The connection they shared was sweet and the romance was decent, but it just didn't seem super passionate.
I dunno, this book to me is a take it or leave it. It's not one I would recommend to someone.

This was a quick quirky read and I loved it! Social pariah finally finds someone who sees the real person inside and it warmed my insides.

Absolutely NOT Dreadful

Be still my geeky heart ❤️ This book is made for trivia loving, socially awkward geeks!

Zoey and Blake meet when Zoey crashes into his car. Zoey is the county coroner and Blake is an insurance agent. Through a serendipitous event where Zoey winds up doing the autopsy on someone who had a life insurance policy through Blake’s company, Zoey and Blake wind up working together to figure out how the man died.

There was a lot I enjoyed about this book! Zoey is my favorite type of character! She’s quirky, funny, and emotionally grows throughout the book. I loved her talking to dead bodies and the random trivia game her and Blake played.

More importantly, I think everyone deserves a boyfriend like Blake. He always puts Zoey first. He realized she was touching wooden objects for luck, so he went out and bought a bunch of wooden objects to put around his house, so she would always have something lucky to touch. And he embraces and loves everything that makes her who she is without trying to change her.

Give this book a try if it sounds like a good fit for you. It’s pretty good! Happy reading y’all!
