Caroline, on a break in London away from her husband after she finds out of his infidelity, discovers a curious vial in the River Thames while mudlarking to clear her mind. Interested in its origin, she does some research into an old, forgotten apothecary that stood a short way from her hotel. In her quest for knowledge, Caroline uncovers the stories of Nella and her lost apothecary, as well as parts of herself she put away in her past.
This book was cute. I absolutely adored it. It's definitely one of self-discovery after a traumatic event and trying to recover what may have been set aside in your past in order to brighten your future. Caroline represents a very strong-willed woman, as do both Nella and Eliza from their perspectives. Sometimes three perspectives within a book is harder for me to follow, which may have been why I didn't feel this was 100% a five-star review, but I love and recommend it none the less.

I just feel like it could have been so good and it was just a bit naff and disappointing, a bit ridiculous at times. Frustrating as I think the concept could have been great!

I liked this! The plot was a tad predictable at points and it definitely seemed like some things happened just to further the plot along, but the characters felt real and it kept me interested and entertained through the whole book. Everything resolves a bit too fast and neatly than is realistic, but it's still a good read!

The book was....meh. I feel that most of the book was lamenting about the wrongdoing of men, which is fine, but it didn't seem like there was a good plot to hold it up. Sure, we have a 1790's apothecary that sells poison to women and a woman in the present day who happens to stumble across a vial, but there's no tension or excitement. It was boring and read more matter-of-fact.

The premise of this book was very intriguing, but the book itself fell short of what I was hoping for.
