Traitor to the Throne was so freaking good! I am in love with this series and I can't wait to dive into the third book!!
I will admit that the beginning of this book started off a smidge slow but it picked up pretty quickly after that. I don't know what is with me and beginnings.. but they always seems slow at some point. Maybe it's because I was tired, just waking up, or distracted by something else... I'm hoping this little trend stops soon.
Amani is back and I love her! Although every time I type, think, or her name it goes to ARMANI. I don't know why and I mentally kick myself when I have to fix it. Amani is basically my everything and if she were real I would totally be her best friend. I love her no nonsense attitude and she could totally show me how to shoot a gun.
Besides Amani, there's Jinn and he's basically the love of my life right now. I love his character and since I was completely shipping them together I was all about their relationship, friendship, and all that attraction. Sign me up for more please!
The one thing that sort of broke my heart, mind, and brain was that damn ending. I'm mentally kicking myself AGAIN because I keep forgetting the third book of this series at my house. I will definitely put it in my purse so I can read something at work tomorrow. I need to know how this all going to end. I need happiness people!

lots of feelings!! i hate it!! make me heartless so i won't feel a thing!! i just want all of them to be safe and happy!!
This was a crazy awesome second book in this series, which I happy to say, didn't suffer from the second-book syndrome. I'd rate it a solid 4.5 stars, as we see Amani and our other favorite traitors in vastly different situations than the previous novel, as they're pushed to their limits. I absolutely loved devouring this book, and while the romance wasn't nearly as intense as the last novel, the action more than made up for it.
I... wha... I was already in love with the first book but this one made me fall in love with this series even more.
The only bad thing I can say about the book is that you won't be able to put it down when you start reading.
And after the ending I'm just sitting here, unsure of how to move on.

A stellar follow up to Rebel of the Sands, not quite better but damn close. Traitor to the Throne picks up right where Rebel of the Sands left off and it's a nonstop action ride the whole way through. Amani never catches a break! When she finds herself captured and taken to the Sultan's palace she is able to spy from the inside. What she learns shakes her to her very core and she's powerless to do anything about it. Her powers have suppressed by the sultan so she must find others ways to get information back to the rebel cause and help some innocents escape from the palace. Lots of twists and turns, and romance, and adventure, and all around badassery. I can't wait to see how the series is wrapped up when the third book comes out later this year. Traitor to the Throne ended crazy and I must know how it all plays out!!

Traitor to the Throne begins with an attack on the rebellion. Amani is captured and taken to the Sultan, Jin is MIA, and the rest of the rebels? Who knows.
It’s hard to say how I felt about this book. I liked it, definitely. Loved it? I don’t know. Maybe I will after I read the third one, because I may need some time to see all the ramifications of the events that happened here (my brain is weird that way sometimes). What I did love was Amani’s development and all the new characters she met in the palace. And that ending?? Why yes, I did order that ambulance, because I just had AN ACTUAL HEART ATTACK. Thanks to the author for making sure we were paying attention so she could slay us all.
Part of what I have always loved about Amani is her snarky attitude and her ability to act fearless in the face of considerable danger. I love that swagger, it reminds me of Aelin from Throne of Glass, who will always be one of my favorite characters of all time. What I love about Traitor to the Throne is that even though she is unable to use her powers and is literally under the control of the Sultan, she maintains her sass. It is her sass and honesty (granted she can’t help but be honest) that get her in the Sultan’s good(?) graces and allow her into his confidence. Even though she learns how to play the game in the harem and in the palace to stay alive and learn valuable intel for the rebellion, she still stays true to herself. I just love that.
Now, as for the other characters:
Jin is unfortunately missing from a large portion of this book (Dear Jin: GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER), but when he does show up, OH MY GOD. The chemistry between those two is so steamy, I can’t take it.
Rahim is...just….damn, I just love him so much. As if we needed another Prince to have feels for.
I clearly need therapy because I found the Sultan, like, really likable??!! I mean, obviously I disagree with his methods in an extreme way and his policy with his harem is clearly super fucked up, but????? He was really nice to Amani?? And I feel like he actually cares about his country, and he doesn’t really want the Demdji hunted down and slaughtered??? Yeah, calling that therapist now.
Tamid can get eaten by a Roc. Slowly. Maybe the twins could do it. Same with Safiyah.
Shira!!!! I spent the whole first book hating her. But I definitely have a new respect for her, and I would love to have a short story of her life in between the first and second books.
I did have just a couple issues with this book though that are keeping it from a 5 star rating. The mythology was really interesting and all, but there was just too much of it. I felt like every time Amani spoke to a stranger, especially the Sultan, that person would reference a story and now we’re taking a detour to tell that story. They were all interesting, but it just happened sooooo often it got a little tiresome.
Also, I would have preferred to see the events in between books 1 and 2 instead of being told them in a little fairy tale-esque story in Chapter 1. It was a nice recap of book 1, but I actually thought I had skipped a book and had to double check that Traitor to the Throne was actually book 2 because those events seemed like a big deal that we should have seen.
As a whole though, I definitely need to get started on Hero at the Fall. Once I get off the phone with my therapist.

But as a mother myself, I have to really respect that girl. And her death scene was one of the most badass things I’ve ever read.I did have just a couple issues with this book though that are keeping it from a 5 star rating. Especially since Rahim was the one that shot her, and her wound in the battle at Iliaz is kind of a big deal in this book.As a whole though, I definitely need to get started on Hero at the Fall. Once I get off the phone with my therapist.
