I laughed at every page of this book. What a great character Erika is, so annoying, feeling so superior to everybody and compulsively lying! I also enjoyed Barry Hollis and Margeart, along with the characterization of Barringa East, and, of course, the such nice ending.
I will start recommending it at the library.

I did not enjoy this book, but I give it two stars because it wasn't horrible but I didn't like it either.

this is the book that started it all for me. I will always remember coming to my year 1 classroom and finding this book in our classroom library. I was hooked and read it at every chance. this is what reading is all about. love love loved it. made me feel so many things and that’s what I want from my books - that experience, that journey and that love.

This is one of my all time favourtie books and is a true australian classic. It is very funny and very stereotypical of some types of australians.

It's a classic for a reason, and it's because it's a fun, funny read with moments of inescapable human nature and the kind of childhood you didn't quite have but could've.
