L'acabo amb una sensació d'alliberament enorme, perquè cap a la meitat vaig pensar que no podria ni acabar-lo...
Dit això, és un llibre que mereix un 10 en estil i escriptura, Stendhal em sembla un geni en aquest aspecte, i li reconec la crítica mordaç a la societat francesa del XIX i el seu sentit del humor i el cinisme. Ara, m'esperava un llibre completament diferent: més polític, més filosòfic. No un "enredo" de faldilles fulletinesc! I amb uns protagonistes que m'han costat molt d'empassar i entendre. A més, trobo que no és una lectura accessible a tothom, o almenys, no pels que no tenim tants coneixements d'història.
Tot i així l'he acabat, he gaudit molt comentant-lo en grup i, tot i que no entengui del tot per què és un clàssic tan reconegut, m'alegro d'haver conegut a Stendhal.

benton on the eve of his death would say in his loud voice, it is singular but you cannot conjugate the verb guillotine in all its tenses. of course you can say i shall be guillitined but you don’t say i have been guillitined. why not, went on julien, if there is another life

Lo scopo di Stendhal con Il rosso e il nero è quello di mostrare come un individuo la cui energia, effervescanza, il cui bisogno di azione viene frutrato dall’ambiente, prima o poi, tenterà di distruggere la struttura che lo tiene soggiogato, imprigionato, che in qualche modo gli tarpa le ali. L’ambiente gli impedisce di incanalare tutta quella energia, ardore, passione - di per sé cose buone - nella giusta direzione. E qual è questo ambiente?
È l'ambiente che si è venuto a creare con la Restaurazione nel quale prevale la rigidità di classe, un certo immobilismo, c’è poco spazio per l’azione, per i gesti eroici ai quali ci si era abituati nel periodo Napoleonico. Anche i più umili entrando nell’esercito potevano allora distinguersi e guadagnare gloria e ricchezza. Si vive ora nella costante paura che possa ripetersi la catastrofe del 1793 e quindi nei salotti certi argomenti sono banditi, si preferisce parlare del tempo, della musica, dei pettegolezzi di corte, ma non si fanno mai discussioni profonde, stimolanti. Julien Sorel è nato in un’epoca sbagliata: è generoso, passionale, un’anima ardente e coraggiosa, ma anche ambizioso e pronto a qualsiasi dissimulazione pur di compiere la scalata sociale. Julien indossa maschere e nel teatrino che si costruisce seppellisce le sue emozioni e desideri più veri. Di qui malessere. Alienazione. Pensieri cupi fino al più terribile: il suicidio. È la morte infatti che qui diventa trionfo di libertà: solo con essa cadono le maschere. Per saperne di più —>
