This is the first book in the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series. The setting is post WWI England. Daisy is the daughter of a viscount so she has access to the upper classes, which works to her advantage when she decides to become a journalist. She is sent to the Wentwater estate to do a story on the family and their ancestral home. When a guest at their NewYear's get together is found dead in the frozen pond there is no shortage of suspects in the man's death.

One of those classic British country manor deaths. The protagonist is a young Ms Marple equivalent, and "has one of those manners where people confide in her" that many female protagonists happen to have. An enjoyable and quick read.

I like Daisy Dalrymple! This book gave a great feel for the times (1920s England) as well as the upper class lifestyle. I was a little disappointed in Chief Inspector Fletcher, I thought he was a little too quick to skirt the law, but of course he was definitely affected by Daisy. I'm looking forward to a developing relationship between him and Daisy. What fun.

this book was cruising along at merely sub-par until some truly obnoxious decisions were made near the end.

A delightful mystery! I practically flew through the bookâthe characters were intriguing and the plot was clever and kept me guessing until the end. A good quick read for a little fall murder case :)
