This is not for me in so many ways. Anonymous violence leads to a violent boxing match leads to more violence. While the style is brutal and graphic, there are moments of Lemire genius laying in wait underneath. He does haunting loneliness better than anyone else. I'm glad I picked this up to see where he started from, but would recommend Essex County over this any day.

Stark, rough art and a bleak plot. I think it would have benefited from going wordless, but that may be because this is one of Lemire's early works; his dialogue has improved since then.

I loved the story. Ok art work, a bit dark. Tragic. So sad.

I love Lemire so much. This was good but I enjoy his more recent works a bit more.

Quick read, interesting artwork, typical of Lemire's style, with a bit more roughness to it. The story is simplistic and brutal without impact.

Holy shit! That was dark from start to finish!!! Really dark! Hard story but a good one for sure. The illustration are in the older years style of Jeff Lemire, not the prettiest, not that neat, but a blurry, almost sketchy kind of style that I like very much from this artist! Excellent!

I originally rated this book 3 stars. There was great, raw art and a sad story and not a whole lot else. But for some reason I'm still working out, it's really gotten into my head and for that, I've got to bump it up to 4 stars.

Essex County was a great leap forward.
