The Plague tells a story of a small town in the face of epidemic crisis, which condemn its citizen to the meaninglessness of sufferings and horrific deaths. Or rather, it observes the complex textures and gestures of the town as they face the deadly crisis — it observes the messy lived experiences of the town, with its multitude and dimensions. I find the book's astute observation on people's behaviour and psychology during epidemic uncanny — his insight hits me in this time of the pandemic.
