This was an okay read. I was hoping for a fun sports romance book, but it just fell short when it came to the development. Disappointing because I've enjoyed a few of the author's other books.
Also - this is marketed as a sports romance book, but neither one of them are athletes; it just takes place occasionally at football games. That doesn't count for me.
What I liked:
-Male MC was my favorite. Sweet, selfless, loves his family, and in touch with his feelings
What I didn't:
-Female MC needs to go to therapy. The whole back-and-forth pining plot is the result of unresolved grief and anger, and that's just not for me.
-Too much of a "not like other girls" vibe, a trope that should be extinct by now imho

Zach Bowen stole my heart!! This sexy bartender and former football player was exactly what Gemma needed, even though she didn’t want to fall in love.
Gemma has always planned and made lists. After she suffers a betrayal and subsequent loss, she finds herself sticking to the one plan she can control: never fall in love again. Then she meets Zach, a swoony and extremely lovable guy, who sees something in Gemma that’s worth pursuing. As much as Gemma tries to fight their connection, it grows stronger with each interaction.
The Wrong Game made me laugh out loud and was super sweet, a bit angsty and overall was a fantastic book. Highly recommended to sports romance fans.

“Gemma might have thought our practice round was over, that tonight was just one date to kickstart the long line of ones she’d have all season long. But I’d never met anyone like her, and I’d had more fun in the few hours we’d spent together than I’d had in the past twelve years. If she thought I was letting go that easy, she was in for a rude awakening.”

A great book for guilty pleasures if you’re craving a bit of an ulta-cheesy romcom, super nice and easy and a short read. Very predictable but again, definitely a guilty pleasure.
Loved the book! This is the first book I have read by this author. The characters were well developed and the story held my interest. Zach and Gemma overcame a lot of hurt in their past to get to their HEA. LOVED the ending!!! I also loved the “life lessons” in this book....live your life being one of them.
I was a patient man, and I’d played football long enough to know you never spent all your energy in the first quarter. There was still plenty of game to play. And when the ball was in my hands again, I’d be ready.
Going in, I knew there was an ex-husband involved. Which I automatically assumed was because of something he did (I trust my instincts) but what I was NOT expecting was the curveball that went with it! Gemma is carrying around such a heavy weight, and it breaks my heart knowing how weighed down she is. Her best friend Belle did her damnedest to lighten the load (LOVED her!). And then Zach tried even harder. Gemma is completely out of her element with online dating, so Zach offers to be a test dummer. Oh good, a segway into Zach! I can pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with him: when he said he wanted to be the first to have the privilege of fulfilling Belle’s promise to Gemma. That treasure of a man was a born and bred feminist and it was apparent at all times! From the start, they both wanted more. She wanted to know more about him, and he wanted to bask in all of her sunshine. Unfortunately…things aren’t as easy as they seem. But that’s okay, because Zach does not give up. He’s a hard worker. Which is good, considering Gemma does NOT make it easy for him! I giggled every time he booped her nose, I was giddy every time he fought for her attention, and I swooned through every one of Zach’s POV chapters. Especially when he was with his brother. I 100% squealed during the epilogue. I expect this book to play out in real time during every football game I watch this season! (And I already know I’m going to be thoroughly disappointed because it’s not going to happen.)
My Favorite Quotes:
• “Whoever had her last, he messed her up. I can’t fix that, but I can show her that I want my own chance to prove I can be more than he was.”
• “Hard to be jealous of a guy who’s just trying to get something I’ve already had.”
• “You do realize this is never going to work out in your favor, right? You’re playing the wrong game.”
• “You’re shaking because you want to touch me, because you want me to touch you.”
• “I want her. I want to fight for her.”
• “Hold onto that wine glass. And don’t you spill a fucking drop.”
• “Oh, and, by the way, I ate her pussy like it was a four-course meal this time.”
• “It's part of what makes you the most unique and amazing woman I’ve ever met.”
• “I love when you do that.” “Do what?” “Exist.”
• “I haven’t been able to think about anything but you. Not since the very night we met.”
• “I like fighting with you.”
• “Let’s play for keeps.”
