I know that one of the main points of this story is that there’s no right or wrong side, but fuck that. I’d stand with the witches. I’d be bitter too if I were being prosecuted for being “different.”

I still love the friendships and art in this 💗 I love when graphic novels have a well developed plot and characters and emotional depth like this one. I just love these books so much, I love getting to learn more about Damien and his friendship with William. I still love the art style and color pallet. I love that the cat can talk and wish that were more prominent in the story. When the cat went with them on their adventure, I kept forgetting the cat was there since it wasn’t in most scenes. I loved the battle scene when they were crossing the desert, it was so beautiful to see the sun set amongst the desert setting! I loved the progression of the sun setting and how it was drawn. It stopped being confusing and disjointed after page 90ish, and after that it’s just so good and so hard to put down. I was flying through it and really enjoying it. It’s very fast paced and really intriguing. It makes me want to re read volume 1 too. I love whenever books can just hold your attention so well and you’re just so immersed in the pages that everything else falls away. I actually tried to read this back in November after I read volume 1 and I was trying to read it at the bookstore where it was loud. So I couldn’t really concentrate or enjoy it fully because it was too loud there, so I’m glad that now I could read it in the quiet at my home and be able to fully concentrate on the story because I enjoy it so much more that way. I’m also glad I decided to read it now instead of waiting for fall, the cover made me want to save it for fall but it’s not really set during fall or anything. I love the character bonds in this. I love when graphic novels are just light hearted and a nice time but I also love when they have a well developed plot and characters and emotional depth like this one. I just love these books so much, they’re so unique and interesting.  I wish this wouldn’t get so dark with adding in murder.

I love Monica; “I’m coming with you to rescue Dani of course”. I love Dani, Dorian, Monica, Nico, and Mark. It is a lot of characters to keep up with but I love them. I do wish it wouldn’t get so dark at the end. I loved this story so much though, I wanted to reread it immediately after finishing it but also immediately wanted to start volume 3.

Loved seeing the characters a bit more grown up. I really liked their dynamic with the new added cast. It was a lot of chaos and magic and love for each other. I adored the friendships and the quieter romantic moments that came to pass.

While the last volume established everyone's roles, this one delved more into morality. What is right when it comes to taking back autonomy and power? Who should get hurt or who do you hurt to regain that control? A lot of prevelant discussions occur in the book about the good, the bad, and the in between. Should we only see the world in black and white? Is there room for nuance and forgiveness?

TW: fire/fire injury, injury detail, kidnapping, racism (against witches), death, death of a parent, murder

Oh, I think I liked this one better than the first one! That Damien and Will storyline just got to me. And it felt like the stakes were really upped here, even if the plot is difficult to follow at some points. With that cliffhanger ending, though, I'm definitely glad I also checked out volume three!

The art style is still fun, I love the overall vibes it gives off. There are also a lot of fairytale elements sort of woven into the story, but they take a different path than you might expect. All in all, this is just a fun series and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

***It's hard for me to review Hooky in volumes, since I first fell in love with the Webtoon and think of it as a long continuous story. My review of Volume 3 will be the most comprehensive as a result!***

As much as I love Hooky as a whole, I do think Volume 2 suffers from middle book syndrome. It's so hard to see Dorian and Dani grow apart and this volume also features my least favorite arc in the series:
the nightmare house
. There's also a lot here that's just setting up the central conflict in the final book, which needs to happen but doesn't make for the most interesting reading.

Regardless, I still love these characters and their magical shenanigans! (Plus, there's so much romantic drama in this book since they've all gotten a bit older.) This just isn't my favorite chunk of the series, and I recommend having Volume 3 handy so you can start reading it as soon as you're done with Volume 2.

It was so good! The plot was plotting, I read it in like 2 days.
omg I’m going to die about Monica and Dorian, they are so perfect. Also if Damien and William don’t kiss I’ll be so mad…. I’m worried about Dani because she thinks Dorian is dead and I think her evil magic is going to take her over

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!

This was so cute, adventurous, fun, amazing, wonderful, omg, please read this. I loved Hooky Volume 1, and Volume 2 was even better.

I love how the relationships developed and how we got to see more about Damien.

And Dorian asking Monica to wait for him has me in tears, it’s fine.

These kids are incredible. I can’t wait for more!
