"La verdad te hará libre, pero antes te hará enfadar"

"Esto es algo que te pasó. Un suceso terrible en tu vida. Pero no es lo que eres y no define la persona en la que te convertirás."

Se me hizo algo difícil engancharme al libro pero vale la pena. Una buena lectura.

I listened to an udio version of this book.

There are times when you have to reach for a book with a serious topic. Even from the title you could probably guess that Paperweight deals with eating disorders. Our main protagonist Stevie is put to a treatments facility but she has different plans - she doesn't want to get better, she wants to die on her brother's death aniversary.

I really appreciated that the book shows the whole process of the treatment, it is not so much a story about realizing that Stevie has a problem - when ou are in such facility it is kind of obvious - but it is about the journey. The question is where's the end of the journey: is it death or is it health?

O honestly loved this story, I mean there are many books dealing with the topic of eating disorders, but Paperweight is beutifully written. I kind of feel for Stevie, I have no experience with bulimia or anorexia, but this book shows that is very easy to get into those problems! And it scares me a lot! Our society shows us a certain ideal of beauty and many girls and women are not satisfied with the image of themselves. Isn't it our fault, that those diseases are so widespread?

I think I will have this book in my mind for a long time. It's one of those stories you have to constantly think about!

Finally, thumbs up for the cover! It's beautiful.

Actually am so glad to have picked up this book, despite my hesitations at first. Finally a book that shows eating disorders in their true light; no fluffy bubble wrapped bullshit. But instead the true pain, judgement, harsh reality that is an eating disorder.

The way she refused to refer to her roommate by name, but as soon as she discovered her roommate had trauma she switched to her name was… really beautifully done.
There is a point about 200 pages in where the book seems to drastically change pace. It just slows right down, as if time decided to stop moving.
And then it all kind of happens at once, in a way that feels a little skipped over, in ways.
There are definitely some big content warnings for this book, so if that’s something you might need, I would recommend looking them up. Most notably, this book follows a girl with an eating disorder in a treatment centre for eating disorders. Other warnings I would note are suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, drinking, abuse, and car crash.

Ouch. Just ouch. This is so well written, and so realistic in many ways that I'd caution against reading if you feel like it may upset or trigger you. The main character's views about the bulimic patients in particular can be quite upsetting. But overall this is an excellent, if slightly painful, read.
