Would have given it four stars, but the last part of the book ruined it for me. Overall it was okay, a quick light read.

I liked this enough to finish but it had some issues for me. This is marketed as a brother’ friend/teammate story. That doesn’t even come in until 40% of the way in. The MMC and the brother haven’t been on the same team or really talked since college. The FMC is very immature and hypocritical. She’s mad at her mom for lying and then turns around and lies to the MMC for basically all of their relationship until they are caught by the brother. There also wasn’t really a whole lot of connection between the two mains. They mostly had great sex and called it love. The MMC did open up slightly to the FMC but it just didn’t seem like a super deep connection/relationship. I’ll probably read the next one because I like the character it is about.

Not terrible, not great. Just ok.

Too many things were unconvincing, whether it was related to plot, characters or writing.

Audiobook: FMC narrator and her intonation was not my cup of tea.

Rowan and Kyleigh had a lot of great chemistry! Rowan was a great mix of sweet and slightly broody. He was really giving Lucas Scott (before we all realized he sucked) energy. I loved that Kyleigh was able to seek solace in him while she was going thru so much and he did an amazing job of being there for her and allowing her to find herself while supporting her, but not pushing.  I felt like this book got so close so many times to really cresting over into that place where I’m incredibly emotionally invested but it didn’t quite get there. I feel like with just a little more back story on Kyleigh and her family, or Rowan and his, or his relationship with Connor it would have gotten there. I also fee like it sort of touched on how his Mr heartbreaker nickname was falsely earned, but didn’t really get any clarification on how that happened or what his previous relationships really looked like. That kept this book in the fun romcom category for me, which is still a GREAT read, but it felt like it could have been and wanted to be more. I also can’t wait for Henry and twitters stories bc I feel like they are going to be amazing!

A Great beginning to a New Hockey Series!

I have been looking forward to THE NEST SERIES for a while now. At the same time, some of you may be new to Piper Rayne's books; others, like me, have been around for a while and have been anxiously awaiting some characters getting their stories, and we will get one of my most anticipated ones later in this series. This book is the story of  Rowan Landry, a hockey player for the Chicago Falcons, and Leigh (Kyleigh) Nilsen, a bridal gown designer and the sister of Connor Nilsen, a player on the Florida Fury Hockey Team.

Leigh and Rowan met at a wedding, and while she knew who he was, he didn't know who she was. They had an instant connection, and the chemistry was intense, so they decided to have a fun night, and oh boy, did they. Only what they thought would only be one night turned into more. But what happens when you keep a secret because you thought it was only one night and don't fess up because you get so deep you're afraid it will end things?

Piper and Rayne didn't pull any punches with this one; check it out: They had a great meet-cute, mirror sex, fantastic banter, he buys her her favorite iced coffee on the regular, she wears his jersey, and what started as an ONS turns into a fling turns into more. See what I mean?

I enjoyed not only Rowan and Leigh but all of the secondary characters. I am looking forward to the next book because, based on the epilogue of this one, the next one will be the real heartbreaker.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy STEAMY Contemporary Romances, Sports/Hockey Romances, Brother's Teammate Romances, Hidden Identity Romances, Close Proximity Romances, or Forbidden Romances.

Happy Reading!!!
