This is a brutal tale that had me intrigued throughout. The build up was slow and if I’m honest that freaked me out more than the actual horror section, knowing something was going to happen but hadn’t yet had my mind in a spin.
As for the horror section, that was good too. Truth be told this ended up better than I thought it was going to be and in my opinion is definitely worth a read.

Gripping but not for the faint hearted - very violent and graphic. I did find the story mostly predictable but I still really enjoyed it. I would recommend this book.
Another brilliant book by the author Amy cross, the way she writes keeps you gripped .. Amazing story with interesting characters, written in so much detail that keeps you gripped ..A good book for any one into a dark story with twists
"It's a miracle the walls aren't still shaking from her screams." -- Amy Cross, The Cabin

This rating is based on shock factor alone. Since I'm no stranger to depraved horror movies, not all of the gory detail shocked me, but there were some surprises. I read this in a single sitting and I liked Cross's writing mainly because it played out like a horror movie and even contained some of the predictable twists, but I still enjoyed it. The parts of this book that were worthy of the 4* rating mainly came from the coldness of the main antagonist, Jennifer, who was really cold, like ice cold! She has some really inhuman quotes and this one was my favourite 👉 "Slowly watching the human body break down, watching as it's soul withers away leaving just the wretched meat behind, twitching whenever it's prodded." 👈 Ice cold! But as with most killers, towards the end she explained everything too much and started boring me.
.
The main thing that stopped this being a 5* book was the number of errors. Call me petty, but poor spelling and grammar really stops me in my tracks, never mind blatantly mixing up AND changing your characters names. That really impacts the pace of a book for me 😒
.
Having said that, I'm starting the follow up which is a shorter book following Anna her physical and mental recovery from her ordeal.
