This book was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. I really enjoyed the storyline, and I felt as if the plot moved well enough (considering that this was a very short book). I really understood the characters and what they were feeling. Unfortunately, I did not like the writing style. It was very old-fashioned and difficult to absorb, although it did have some beautiful and profound phrases and imagery.

I love this book! The book takes you to a cozy place in the New England winter as you learn about the character Ethan Frome. I could not put it down, and started from the beginning once I finished. It is a sad story but it feels so real.

This was a great introduction to Edith Wharton's writing. It's short, and could easily be read in one or two sessions. It will definitely make you feel like you are trapped in an endless winter, however, so maybe don't bring it with you for your beach vacation. Read it first, and then go to the beach to make you feel better.
Graphic: Suicide attempt
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Infidelity, Medical content, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Racial slurs
There is one use of the g-slur to describe a campfire. Unnecessary, but very much of the time. It is not used in a derogatory way, or even to describe a person.
It only took me two months of contemplation, but I realized that I actually hated this book.
