tragic. an excellent character sketch of three housemates. I really loved this book. happy I picked it up.
(1.5 stars) this is going to be apart of a long list of books I read in search for finding a classic book that I enjoy. while I thought the writing was good and very descriptive as is the case with most classical books. I found it not very accessible. I don't think there needed to be an entire half chapter dedicated to Maddy crying over the pickle bowl or whatever when right there a beautiful perfect metaphor for Ethan and his wife's marriage being destroyed in that moment was made. and really through out this whole book there never really was a climax so I just didn't enjoy that either. idk I'm going to continue to try reading classical books because I really can appreciate them I just really want to find one I genuinely enjoy.
Loved the character of Mattie, hated that she spelled it that way. Haha

Ethan Frome portraits relationships in a very dark but interesting manner. The bitterness of the wife and the loss of cheerfulness of the young girl after the tragedy mark this story. He is between their worlds or love, resignation and resentment.
At Ricks College for English 112. Loved the college and the course, the story - not so much.
Not as good as The House of Mirth, but Wharton's writing is always a delight.
