This novel is short and yet poweful in its messages. Wharton was able to use the seetting of the novel to enhance the strangling environment. I think that the characters seem like poeple you may have known or will come to know in your life. I highly enjoyed this novel. But, it is quite gloomy.

What the what??? I didn't see that twisted ending coming!! Edith Wharton had a dark side!

This was the worst book I ever had to read for school, hands down. Loathed everything about it.

Interesting. Edith Wharton is certainly not known for writing happy stories. This one was different and shorter than her other stories and I was intrigued enough to keep reading.

Is it bad that I think of this book as a black comedy? It kind of is.

I might be a terrible person.
