Writing: solid. Didn’t detract from the sorry.
Plot/characters: I enjoyed the story. The first half had a lot of promise, a super interesting premise. The second half felt a bit rushed. I still enjoyed it, but I’m not sure if fulfilled its full potential.
Profundity: it wants you to think about what makes us human, but in the end, I thought the thoughts were too simplistic. I think it could’ve been explored better and with more depth.

A preposterous beginning with aliens (barely there) + genetic engineering — and this books is surprisingly, keenly human. Reminds me of theoretical robots/AI (but it has nothing to do with robots/AI).

I really didn't care for this book. Bi thought the premise was interesting but the author seemed more exited to talk about this cool world he thought of than actually tell me a story. I know people who would love this but since I enjoy books that lean much heavier into character development and a more human story that I can connect to, it just didn't work for me.
