This Is Our Story

I decided to go ahead and read this book because I had so much fun with [b:One of Us Is Lying|32571395|One of Us Is Lying|Karen M. McManus|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1490084494s/32571395.jpg|49825436], but what really made that book was the relatable characters and I feel like that was definitely lacking here. There are five prep-school boys in this book and I honestly could not tell most of them apart for this entire book. I mean one of them was dead so he's easy to single out and then something happens to make another one stand out as well, but the other three - AKA the ones that you are trying to figure out which one is the murderer - are so completely interchangeable as to be ridiculous. It's like reading The Raven Cycle except every character is Gansey [and I hate Gansey so also there's that].

It was still interesting enough overall for me to give it 3 stars but it was definitely lacking in character development and probably went a bit too heavy on the whole ~secret teenage romance~ angle as well. Also while how she solved the mystery was clever, I don't feel like it would have actually held up in a court of law. I mean she basically gets the evidence by trespassing on someone's property and they're like 'that's fine you have to do 30 hours of community service' and I'm like ...is chain of custody not even a thing here? I mean I'm not a legal expert by any means but I thought you had to throw out evidence if you didn't get it in the correct way. I guess it's okay for a YA book but it's definitely lacking in depth in a lot of areas.

An easy, captivating whodunnit with teenagers as the main protagonists.

4.5 stars really

So damn good! I was instantly drawn in and just devoured it as quickly as I could. I needed to know how it ended!

Definitely a good murder mystery. It kept me guessing throughout

Felt that many moments were slow, and I would have loved to see how the boys reacted to the news at the end of the novel. I was not interested in many parts.
