I should really listen better when my sister recommends a book, instead of putting it off for years. There was so much to love about this one! Young readers get to learn about how language works, the process of new words being created, and also about how to stand up for what you believe while still being respectful to authorities who disagree with you.

Highly recommended for readers of all ages!

This was cute. My students definitely dug it. It's a fairly straightforward story, but there's a good bit of nuance to unpack, which is great for student book clubs. (student book club)

Read this mainly because it was under two hours for a quick family drive from upstate NY to NYC. It had been recommended to me. The audio reader was excellent and the story was short and simple. It is a great way to teach a kid to learn about how words are created. I loved the description of the nick’s innovation (not just with the word), the teacher and nick’s selflessness at the end. Perfect listening for a 6 year old or even younger, and enjoyable even if a bit predictable for parents.

This was the latest audio book the kids and I listened to in the car. It was quite clever and short. My kids did confess to being bored a couple of times and were not overly excited about listening to it, but they ended up enjoying it well enough.
