I found the plot to this book extremely confusing. I recognize that this is a work of fiction but it was so fantastical and multi-layered that it became supremely difficult. There was also a great number of pages spent describing the technical aspects of weaponry and such, which I doubt Patterson's readers really understand or need from his work.
The sublime Alex Cross and co is back!
I love this series so much. There is no dumbing down of plot to play to the masses. It's buckle up and prepare to be bamboozled at every turn. Just when you think you have the plot sussed...blammo you get hit in the grey matter by another twist!
Alex and his family attend the funeral of the late present who had died from a brain tumour. But as the Big Wigs and political piranha settle in with the new President, Alex has some new patients to deal with. But Alex is still on retainer to the FBI and they need Alex to profile the assassin of a senator. But in a slight conflict of interest, Bree is the Chief of Detectives who are also investigating the death.
But as one assassin is uncovered, two more pop up. Then there are assassins taking out assassins, closing dead ends in an effort to head off the investigations into more high profile assassinations.
Add in cryptocurrency plots, political backstabbing and the Cross family are once again front and centre in the action. There was a nice sub plot involving the budding romance of Alex's son. The other subplot involving Alex new patient is a doozy and again you're left reeling and trying to grasp the "WTF" moments!
Its fast paced, tumultuous, terrifically twisty and just all around brilliant writing!

A good read, twisty turny plots but it didn’t keep me hooked like other Alex Cross books had. Maybe I went in with too high expectations but usually I rattle through these short snappy chapters. Having said that it was nice to hook up again with Nana and the family
At this point in the game, we’ve all discussed James Patterson and the possibilities of ghostwriters. Does he have them? Who knows, but we do know that he stays pretty consistent with his character Alex Cross. With that being said you pretty much know what’s going to happen just from reading the blurb. Alex Cross is home chilling with Nana Mama and the kids, here comes the psycho bad guys, cue in Alex to save the day. Nothing fascinating or outstanding in this book, it’s just the same Alex Cross we’ve all come to know and love. Maybe one day there’ll be more.....??
I read this for my 2021 Reading Challenge and the prompt was a book with 3 generations. I knew an Alex Cross book would be perfect for this promt. Nana Mama, Alex, and his children definitely work. I absolutely love this series but I could not get into this book. I'm just not interested in assassins so I could not get into this book. The last chapter was the best one and I cannot wait to learn about that murder in the next book.

In the wake of the death of the President of the United States, the country is rocked by a new set or murders. In the 26th installment of the Alex Cross series, Alex finds himself in a high stakes hunt for a group of assailants hired to destroy American democracy. As he teams up with the Secret Service and the FBI, the hunt will take him across state lines in a well executed plan that could change the nation.

Target Alex Cross is an easy, fast-paced read, packed with lots of action and drama. However, due to the large cast of characters it felt difficult to keep track of each subplot, and the story seemed to jump all over the place from chapter to chapter. Not only that, I felt the plot was a little over the top, and involved so much violence and death. Due to the seriousness of what transpired the ending felt anticlimactic and abrupt as well. I missed the family aspect of the book, and Sampson was all but missing here as well. It did end of a cliffhanger, that makes me hopeful for the next book.
Keep in mind, these books can easily be read as standalones, however, to get the most out of them it's best to read them in sequence.

Starting to wonder if I’m going to continue this series...this one was just meh. Again.
