I prefer the Winter people for a good scare.
I like Jennifer McMahon. There are definitely women (and girls) in peril in all of her books. At least it seems that way. This was one slightly tense and creepy. Atmospheric. But, the ending just wasn't enough.
adventurous
mysterious
The Night Sister is an atmospheric thriller and mystery, but most of all it is a story about secrets, especially the kind that we keep from ourselves. Although parts of the book felt a little tried and the ending obvious, the story was totally unpretentious and self aware. This is a straight forward book with writing that creeps up on you, and before you know it, has you its claws in you. I stayed up till dawn reading this one, but I recommend it be read during daytime.
3.5 for me.

This was so fun! The first book in a while that I had to put down for a bit to un-suspense myself.
I take enjoyed this mystery/thriller. Two timelines and I found both of them to be really interesting
I've got a bit of a love/ hate relationship with this book. See my full review on my blog! https://alickofeverything.com/book-review-the-night-sister/
I actually won this book! I entered a GoodReads giveaway and then forgot about it, then got an e-mail that I won, then promptly received the book in the mail!
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It's sort of like an modern old folk tale following a family lineage in different years. It focuses on The Tower Motel and the dark secrets that lay within us. It was spooky, unique, and had wonderful pacing. I found myself really captivated by it, and I breezed through it in only a few days.
It was spooky but not gratuitous in violence or anything like that. A lot was left to the imagination and the author did a really good job of leaving bread crumbs! I'll definitely check out more of her books.
