Gorgeous horror writing. The cast of characters is compelling, completely irritating, and absolutely lovely. This story contains satisfying and bittersweet portrayals of sibling relationships and everything good and horrible that can’t be extracted from them. Extremely good set up and payoff.

I’m quite surprised by the negativity on the reviews for this one. Yes, there’s a lot of teen drama, but it makes the characters believable and it’s a great contrast with the supernatural magic in the story. Yes it’s quite long, but everything had a point and ties together nicely. It’s a fun (sub)urban fantasy story which has been done very well, a very consistent world with believable characters and twists and turns. Sometimes it is a little obvious what’s going to happen, sometimes it’s completely unexpected. I listened to the audible audiobook, and the narration was also great!

I really don’t get how almost all of the written reviews for this are negative, yet it still has a reasonable overall star rating. It’s a good book.
