All I can say is W.O.W.! I cannot believe how good this series is. Mr. Nylund challenges my imagination and my vocabulary while weaving a fabulous world that is the right mix of reality, mythology and his own whatever it is.
Here it comes--my one critisism--I found myself wishing that the two main characters, Fiona and Eliot were closer. They are twins that grew up with only themselves to talk to and lean on, but since I'm not a twin and don't know the complexities of that type of relationship, I can't complain too much.
This is one of those books that you nervously check to see how far you've gotten--because you know it won't be long enough, but thats the price we pay for reading series books. Also, its not like the author skimped on size, the book is over 700 pages for goodness sake!
I'm sure that like its predecessor, this one will end up on my Best of 2010 list, man this was good. I'm looking forward to many re-reads
Mr. Nylund will be joining the likes of Ilona Andrews, P. Briggs, Sanderson and Weeks on my favorite writers list.

Book 2 in an ongoing series. I read this book as an Endeavour book and wouldn't have picked it up otherwise and it would have been my own loss. Sure it's yet another Gods (and kids of Gods) in modern day. And a magical kids go to school. But it was surprisingly enjoyable - and that was without reading book 1. Though not so enjoyable that I must immediately pick up book 1 - but it'll be on my list to read eventually. 4 of 5.

I'm sobbing inside that there is no third book to this series. I knew it there wasn't going in, but I couldn't help myself *sigh*

I didn't quite like this book as much as I liked Mortal Coils, mostly because of some character choices and the lack of team Eliot/Fiona. They each went on very distinct paths. It feels necessary to their character arcs' so hopefully they'll reunite stronger together in future books (maybe???).

My main problems with this book are in the spoiler tag and it is filled with spoilers.

Was I the only annoyed when the moment Mitch started getting interesting and ship-able he died? Though to be fair about 3 people who "died" in that ending turned out to not be dead so I won't give up hope yet.

Secondly, I cannot count how many times I wanted to scream at Eliot to let go and move on from Jezebel. I mean dude, c'mon . If a girl has been playing you 99% of the time throughout your so called relationship I think it's safe to say that it isn't a healthy relationship. I'm hoping that his obvious one true love Lady Dawn shows up to whisk him away. Or anybody else. Seriously, Amanda? Sarah? Anybody will do. We'll see if future books don't change my mind about this couple which doesn't seem at all likely to me right now.

Also it should say something that most of my complaints are about the romance. The strengths to this series is in the familial bonds between all the characters and how, or even if, they should define you.

Other than that this book was great. Highly recommended. Very long, but so worth it.

Now I will go to a corner to weep about the lack of news for the future of this series.
