dante russo is a cold, calculating billionaire who thrives on control. he doesn't trust easily, keeps his emotions locked down, and treats love as a distraction. a power player through and through, he's used to getting his way and staying ten steps ahead. but underneath the polished surface, there’s a man shaped by betrayal and pain, someone who wants more but doesn’t know how to ask for it.

vivian lau is a confident, accomplished jewelry designer who was raised to value image, strength, and self-sufficiency. poised and sharp, she’s got grace under pressure and a backbone of steel. she doesn’t back down, doesn’t trust easily either, and enters the arranged marriage with clear boundaries and even clearer goals.

now here’s the part where i spiral, because these two are magnetic together.

∘₊✧the characters✧₊∘

vivian is that girl. she walks into dante’s world and refuses to be another pawn in his power game. she challenges him, questions him, matches his energy, and honestly? he doesn’t know what to do with that. her strength isn’t loud, it’s steady, graceful, immovable. she’s not afraid of his intensity, and she doesn’t let herself be swallowed by his world. she demands emotional accountability, and it was so satisfying watching her refuse to settle for crumbs.

and dante? he’s emotionally constipated but somehow still manages to scream obsessed in every scene. he’ll be like “this means nothing” and then proceed to get jealous, sabotage dates, and make her soup while brooding in the corner. it’s the way he’s such a contradiction. icy and intense, but quietly soft when it comes to her. he doesn’t know how to be vulnerable, but you feel it every time he looks at her like she hung the moon.

what really got me was how he unraveled. not all at once, but slowly. the more he saw vivian for who she was, the more he tried to open up, even if it scared him. he makes a mess of it sometimes, but the effort is there. and when he finally starts choosing her, not for convenience, not for appearance, but for real, i was a goner.

∘₊✧the plot✧₊

the best kind of set up. an arranged marriage between two powerful people with trust issues, resentment, and enough tension to power a city. it starts off cold, transactional, and full of side-eyes and verbal sparring, but then comes the longing. the protectiveness. the yearning. it becomes less about business and more about them seeing each other for who they truly are.

the stakes are emotional, not life-or-death. there’s some corporate drama and a revenge subplot simmering in the background, but the focus stays on their relationship. and honestly? it works. this book doesn’t try to do too much. it hones in on two people learning how to let their guard down and love on purpose.

the forced proximity is gold. the slow burn is delicious. every time they get close, something pulls them back, and every time they push each other away, it just builds more tension. there’s glitz, drama, vulnerability, and moments of softness that feel so earned.

∘₊✧why 4 stars?✧₊∘

this was such a strong, enjoyable read, but a few things held it back from being a five-star read.

first, the revenge subplot. there was so much setup around dante’s grudge and his issues with vivian’s family, and i thought we were building toward something explosive. but the payoff felt underwhelming. all the tension around that storyline kind of fizzled out instead of hitting hard.

second, the ending. after all the slow burn and angst, the resolution felt way too fast. i needed more time with them after the walls came down. more softness, more healing, more us moments. it wrapped up too neatly after so much emotional mess.

and lastly, a few of dante’s internal monologues started to feel repetitive. like yes king, we know you’re falling in love and it terrifies you, please do something about it instead of brooding in your penthouse.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

tldr : if you’re into sharp heroines who won’t settle and emotionally shut-off billionaires who accidentally fall harder than anyone, king of wrath will absolutely deliver. 4 stars because the subplot could’ve hit harder and the ending felt rushed, but the tension, chemistry, and characters were top tier.

dante russo. that's it. that's the review.

it wasn’t anything world changing, but dante has a filthy mouth and vivian has a backbone so it was a good read.

This book went on and on... and on. For no reason. There were a few good spicy moments, though, and I did like that she didn't fall back into his arms immediately at the end. She made him work for her trust and forgiveness again.
