the plot was so fast it's on the third lane of the m27

struggled to connect with the characters, I like viv but not enough to really care about the whole story.

booktok hype, as usual, didn't live up to expectations

I loved this book. Ana's sense of humor is amazing and the story was so well written. I like that the spicy scenes don't overtake the plot. The character development is incredible and I can't wait to read the other books from the series.

I fear this book took me forever to get through, just like the first book in the Twisted series did. It ended up being pretty good, but I felt it dragged on when it didn’t need to. I also wasn’t a super big fan of the ending and how the conflict between the male main character and the main protagonist was resolved...it almost felt rushed. Not a bad read by all means, but it was not my favorite from Ana Huang, I will be reading the other books in the series though!

“A part of me would always find my way to her. She was my North Star, the brightest jewel in my sky.”

This is my first time reading Ana Huang and I am so immensely impressed by her writing style. The way she uses comparisons, such as describing how Vivian speaks sickly sweet like drizzling  syrup on pancakes, made these characters so tangible. It made them come to life— their personalities, their persona, their little idiosyncrasies. They were so real for me because of how she chose to use analogies.

Being Asian myself, I loved reading about an Asian family dynamic. There are just some things that are so deeply personal that you don’t know you need someone to see you, until they do– that’s how it felt reading about Vivian overcoming the emotions with her family. Her relationship with herself and her family, and watching her grow in both, because of Dante, was such a warm feeling to read. Vivian is a slightly layered character and I appreciated that.

I think Dante’s story was a little less intriguing to me. It felt like a tale that’s been told several times; rich family, heir to the throne, distant relationship with parents. I loved their love story, but I was lacking a little in his character. I’ll never turn down a protective “touch her and die” boyfriend though!

As the reader, I wish I hadn’t known why it was an arranged marriage. This book didn’t really have that “wow” or “shock” factor for me like I wish it had. I think if we had been in the dark like Vivian as to why they were getting married it really would have added to the experience.

Regardless, watching them fall apart and come together under their new terms made my heart smile + my body pebble with goosebumps.
