If you know less about the Great Depression in America, and knowing from the perspective of people who were the worst affected by it, then you will be able to live it through the words of this book. It is realistic, brutally, and this realism aches you to believe in it. It is like a ballad, poetry written in such a way that it makes you visualise the lands of Oklahoma and California. The themes it touches are mainly related to capitalism and poverty, the two extreme ends of our unfortunate societies. It arises hope and hopelessness. At a point in the book, the author says that when people's despair comes together, it turns into wrath. That's why, I guess anger is one of the feelings that the book keeps on poking in the readers, an anger similar to what is felt when we think where the humanity is going wrong in this world.
A pleasure to read, a tragedy to experience, a history to fear.
