i really wanted jo to end up a literary spinster, the way the author had intended her to be. maybe i’m projecting but the denouement would have been better if she was an aroace.

In 19th century America, during civil war, the March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy lived with their mother and governess Hannah when their father was away from home, at the battlefield. In between play, dressing game, literary discussions, dancing and being "little women" all they prayed for was the safe arrival of their father. Though they are sisters, each one of them is different from other. Their liking, mannerism, ideology, dreams, aspirations all are different. But what makes them alike is their love for each other, family and father. There is also the Lawrence boy, Theodore Lawrence, Laurie, Teddy. Jo's Teddy. we also meet Mr. Lawrence, Aunt March, Aunt Carol John, Professor. Each of them leaves a strong mark.
I loved the journey, i love how with time, they grow as a person, how they start to realize the true meaning of life. Whoever you are, Young or child or old, you need to read this book. For this guides us to be good, to know better, to do better. It is a commentary on family, friendship, marriage, dreaming high but keeping foot at the ground. It is just another ordinary story about family and their journey through life. Now if you haven't read the book, kindly don't read any further for i will go into the spoiler.
Yes we all love Jo, but what I love most about her is how flawed she is and how much she suffers to be better. She does mistakes, but she owns them like her ornaments and tries to be better, to do good. She aspires to be big, but she also knows family is the most important thing. My sweet Beth, doesn't she deserve better? She is the purest of all and I can't believe what happens to her. I guess, my least emotional attachment was with Meg. She is good but i have just zero feelings regarding her. And now, contrary to popular opinion, I loved Amy. yes, throughout the book, there were parts I was so annoyed with her, but by the very end I started loving her. She isn't any hero or something to look up to. She is ordinary, with ordinary ideologies but she is what society was then. And I can't blame her for wanting pretty things.
Now, the main thing, I can't believe Jo rejects my boy Teddy. No amount of argument or reasoning can make me accept this. I just don't accept it. He deserves better. He doesn't deserve to be heartbroken. He just doesn't. I adored them, their friendship so much. :')
With all good things here is a negative remark, it is super long and super slow, Slow to the point where I wanted some chapters to be over. But even that couldn't make me love the book any less. So do me a favor and read this book.
