One of my favorite books! I read it in six days! The relatable and complex characters make this book hard to put down.

i was really not sure if i should actually give this 5 stars. objectively the story itself is not a perfect 10/10. but i just loved the book so much and finished it in one day. my heart felt heavy and warm while reading and this book feels so unexpectedly special to me. idk why and idk how to explain what i am feeling.
i already read it in 2019 but basically forgot everything. i just remember really liking it then, too.
i already want to re-read it again, but in english this time.

i have found that sad books really affect my mood so i want to rate it lower because i didn’t actually enjoy the experience that much, but it having a big emotional effect on me makes me want to rank it higher. i think i’m going to be thinking about this book for a while. i feel like most of the john green books i’ve read have ocd in them, does he have ocd??? maybe i live under a rock. it was a good progression i think

John Green’s ability to craft a beautiful and compelling sentence that makes you stop and feel something in your body is incredible. Aza is an incredible character. Davis and Daisy are strong foils. I enjoyed the pacing and the narration a lot. I do not have OCD, but there are people in my life who struggle with OCD and anxiety. The depiction of the spiral was compelling. The motif of finding metaphor/language inadequate to describe pain is a strong one. Ending left me with a sense of sad and joyful acceptance.

“You think you’re the painter, but really you’re the canvas” i knew i loved this book from the second I read this quote. On the second page.

I loved the way that this book portrayed mental health and the intricacies of spiralling in an endlessly tightening space, and the focus that it placed on its importance

I also absolutely fell in love with the little bits of romance scattered through the book “who cares if she can kiss? She can see through the clouds.”
