For those of you who are W alums from, like, 2005 on, this is a terrific, break in emergency trip to the mother ship when you can’t actually get there. (Bonus points for not sugar-coating everything and Zhao absolutely nails some particularly astute observations.)  Nostalgia aside, this is a super-engaging, fun book centered on aroace folks and challenging the typical framing of “love”. It fits nicely alongside Becky Albertelli books and Who
Kissed Shara Wheeler. I am curious about the pop culture list generated by the Diana’s (to read more aro/ace voices) and will have to see if Zhao did us all a solid by posting it to IG.

More bonus points for the She-ra reference. <3

Cute book on friendship! How much love you can feel as an ace individual even without the romantic nuances. It's refreshing not to read a book focused on romance. Jo and Sophie have fun banter. Overall it was a wholesome quick read that made me feel good about my friends!

I enjoyed the bulk of this story- the characters and setting were all very endearing. As an a-spec person myself, it’s always great to get more representation. My main issue was with the plot, which really fell apart after the obligatory-and-way-over-blown third act “breakup”. I checked out at that point and was ready for things to wrap up. Also every time the author wanted us to know a line was funny she’d say “this character laughed”. Thing is, the line wasn’t funny, and that saying got repetitive real soon. Overall, though, I had a good time.

As much as i was excited to read it, i just couldn't get myself to like any of the characters?? Not sure if it's just bc i don't vibe with them or what, but i feel like in books like this with "easier" plot, it rides even more on the characters so i just figured there's no reason to force myself through it if i'd rather read something else :')
I'm sure there'll be people able to connect more with them or people seeing aromantic explained for the first time that will enjoy it, but sadly that wasn't enough for me.
