this was such a wholesome read :) i really enjoyed watching the friendship between Sophie and Jo blossom. we need more aroace representation in YA!

in terms of the story, i'm not the biggest fan of books with setups like this (i.e. enemies online but budding friends in real life) bc they always lead to so much miscommunication, but i thought the way it was handled here was pretty realistic. also, the specificity of the Wellesley College setting wasn't for me personally (i feel the same way about pop culture references—it just feels easily outdated). still, i think this book is an important addition to the LGBTQIA+ conversation in YA, and i hope someone out there sees themselves in Sophie and Jo!

At times this felt like a fan fiction…. For Wellesley? It had me thinking what details I would put in a YA book set at Luther. Drama at a frisbee party. Seeing your hookup the morning after in the Caf. C@L drama. Something about Luther peanut butter. It was sweet but ultimately I wasn’t in on the bit.

Happy for the a-spec representation, in a love story no less. I prefer Loveless, which is mentioned in the book, and has the author quoted on the book jacket, lol. Definitely cheesy, definitely YA, but a heartwarming story about two young people finding unexpected love and friendship.

Felt wayyy too juvenile for me (as someone many years out of undergrad) and over explained but still confusing somehow. I’m sure for someone younger this book is great and very interesting. Just not for me.

I do appreciate the variety of identities being represented though!
