Series is getting rather repetitive. I'm also getting a bit tired of Uthred behaving like an ass or randomly killing people and getting away with it because plot reasons.
Didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous installments. It picked up at the end, but the first 3/4 was quite slow. It was also somewhat implausible, as Uhtred is now 50 years old (very old by the standards of the Dark Ages), and yet he rides and fights like he did when aged 20. His impulsive attempt to capture Babbenburg with a handful of men was also out of keeping with previous books: we are always told that he can't regain his birthright until he has money to pay an army of men. For decades he defers attempts on Babbenburg for this reason, only to make such a half baked attempt aged 50. Why not do it before, if he was willing to try with a handful of followers? I hope the next volume picks up, otherwise the series will be finished for me.
