A surprisingly good short read. Already downloaded the next one in the series.

This book is written in first-person present tense, which is extremely odd and took some getting used to.

That said, I absolutely loved the plot! I'm invested in not only the main characters, but the plight of the half-demons in a changing world. I'm definitely going to continue reading this series!

I enjoyed this one but not as much as the redemption series (of which this is a spin off). I really liked Emma but was kind of indifferent to Connor. I don't dislike him I just don't particularly care about him one way or another. He is just so meh. Also I don't feel the connection between Connor & Emma. We're told its there but I just don't feel it - not like with Dayton & Marcas. Definitely keen to read the next instalment though.

3.5 stars -- SOLID 3.5 stars.... Unique world -- loved the idea of gargoyles and hybrid demons as Ms. Ryals portrayed them. Lots of delicious sarcasm, inner conflict and turmoil, and great chemistry between Conor and Emma. Really ended up enjoying some of the secondary characters too (Will, Deidra, and Marion). I think I suffered from too many other things going on in my life, so I couldn't get absorbed in this world as much as I wanted to....

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book. The synopsis is intriguing and gets you wondering so I thought, why not. I love the idea of gargoyles being real, they’re like vampires, cool, sexy, distant. Or should be! So, I picked this up without any preconceptions or idea of what to expect. And I was quite happily impressed.

I read this during Dewey’s 24 hour Read a Thon and it was so nice to have something that was easy, a bit romantic and very different. There are gargoyles and there are also demons so this short read was also perfect for October.

The characters are really interesting as well. I was really curious about Emma from the start and you are given more and more reasons to be curious about her. R.K. Ryals doesn’t give much about her characters but the bit she gives makes you want more. Emma and Conor are intriguing enough on their own but I absolutely loved Deidra and the Drex!

Deidra is an imp that clings to Emma’s kindness. Being an imp she’s a bit of a trickster so she’s gotten mostly everyone mad at her at one time or another but it’s to a point where Deidre has no friends. It’s so sad and she just seems so cute, I just want to hug her! Demon or not! And then there’s Ace. Of course I would fall in love with a huge dragesque type of demon. But he’s cute in my mind. I just can’t help myself, really.

All in all, really easy read with a good plot. I’m looking forward to number two. This definitely ends with answers but there were more questions in my mind that need answering!
